From K to J's Photobooth

Hey Lemonettes! Sorry that I keep disappearing and reappearing from this community, real life has been hectic lately (graduating, preparing to start a new job, getting rid of the bulk of my worldly possessions!) Thankfully we have an amazing, amazing guest poster this month. I've been loving [info]bailamorena's posts & am so excited to have her posting for this month.

Anyway, I've finally managed to drag myself back onto the internet & post some of the things I've been hoarding for the past few weeks and I'm going to start with a conceptual art project. Keetra Jane Dixon & JK Keller's Photobooth is a collaborative conceptual art project that involves a repurposed photobooth -- the booth still takes pictures, but each strip is developed and superimposed with a series of coded symbols and messages.

From the Photobooth website:
The booth is presented in semi-public spaces as a typical photobooth holding no denotation of it's unique qualities. Users enter the booth, pose for 2 shots & exit as usual. During the developing process, the photos are "analyzed" & customized with forecasts consisting of patterns, symbols & messages.

Functioning as an unexpected myth builder - myth as fantasy, deception, unfounded explanation of the unknown, & social legend - the booth is designed to:

* Surprise & delight its audience
* Encourage an openness to play & create social relation through confrontation of the unexpected
* Stimulate multiple emotions simultaneously (confusion, excitement, inspiration, vulnerability, selfconciousness) by inducing a mini "transcendent/synesthetic" experience similar to having a crush, falling asleep, lucid dream...
* Encourage patience & optimism in unexpected circumstances
Isn't that amazing?

The project's website archives a number of photos taken by the booth along with a key for decoding the messages, but I've picked out a few of my favorites to share with you here.

You can see more of Keetra and JK's projects at their website From K to J.
